Learn About California’s “Where’s My Ballot?” Tool

by Sanda Ljubovic

Are you worried about your mail-in ballot arriving on time? Never fear! The new California online tool for voters, “Where’s My Ballot?” will let you track it.

The ongoing situation with COVID-19 has made this year’s voting situation unique. >

All California voters will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot with a prepaid postage return envelope for the November 3, 2020 General Election. This is not unusual, but what is unusual is the number of people who will be utilizing the main-in ballot as opposed to in-person voting. With the COVID-19 pandemic still very active in the United States, voting by mail may actually be the safest way to vote!

Many people may feel uncertainty with the idea of voting by mail and trusting that their ballot will make it to where it is supposed to be. This year, though, there is a little more reassurance. Voters can now get critical updates on their ballots through California’s official “Where’s My Ballot?” tracking tool. Signing up takes just couple of minutes!

You can sign up at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov to receive automatic emails, SMS texts, or voice call notifications about your ballot. You will receive information if there are any issues with your ballot and instructions on how to correct your ballot so your vote is counted.

What you’ll be able to track with the “Where’s My Ballot?” tool

Voters who sign up for the “Where’s My Ballot?” notification system will receive automatic updates in the following circumstances:

• When the county elections office mails your ballot
• When the county has received your ballot
• When the county has counted your ballot
• If they have issues with your ballot

Those who sign up for “Where’s My Ballot?” will also receive information about important election deadlines and critical updates such as polling place changes.

A close and reliable tracking system will give voters confidence and add extra legitimacy to election results.

In these trying times, our safety is of immense importance. With more and more people unwilling to visit their local polling place in person, mail-in ballots are more popular than ever. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to track your ballot every step of the way with the new “Where’s My Ballot?” tool!
